Canceled Disney+ Series Could Find New Streaming Home

Let’s play the “Did our favorite show on Disney+ get canceled?” game again.

Okay, so we’ve already lost a LOT of great original Disney+ shows over the years. We’re still not over the cancellation of The Acolyte after just one season. We’re also not happy that we won’t get any more Muppets Mayhem. One series we were really looking forward to, The Princess and the Frog series, never even got off the ground before Disney canceled it. Well, Disney+ has canceled another popular show, Goosebumps, but there could be hope that the show isn’t gone forever.

According to Variety, Disney+ has decided to cancel Goosebumps after just two seasons. The horror anthology series based on the bestselling R.L. Stine books of the same name originally premiered on Disney+ in 2023, with a second season premiering earlier this year.

However, don’t fret if you loved the show and want more of it. There’s hope! Sony, who owns the rights to the books’ adaptations, has plans to shop the show to other networks and streamers or even explore new creative outlets for the franchise. So there’s still a chance Goosebumps might turn up on another streaming site or in some new way.

Both seasons of the show pulled in about 75 million hours combined viewing in the U.S. It also racked up 43 million hours viewed across 16 countries. Disney has not given a reason for its cancellation, but as we’ve seen across streaming platforms, show cancellations after one or two seasons are happening more often.

As someone who watched the show, I have to admit its cancellation doesn’t surprise me. I don’t feel the second season lived up to the first season, or even the series of books the show is based on.
