REVIEW: This New Disney Snack Proves a Hot Dog IS a Sandwich

There are SO many dining options at Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland is also constantly introducing new food items and specials of the month. A popular dining spot at the Disneyland Resort recently introduced a new special for August, and we had to give it a try!

Caprese Hot Dog

We recently stopped by GCH Craftsman Grill inside Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel to grab the hot dog of the month, and we are bringing you all our thoughts! Let’s check out what’s cookin’ at the Grand Californian!

The GCH Craftsman Grill offers a hot dog option each month, and for the month of August, you can grab the Caprese Dog for $17. This hot dog features an all-beef hot dog, basil pesto aioli, fresh mozzarella, wild arugula, lemon oil, tomato bruschetta, pomegranate glaze, prosciutto di Parma, on a fresh-baked Italian roll. It is served with a side of fries.

On first glance, you might miss the hot dog it is so piled with meat! Have no fear though, it is hidden amongst the layers of meat, cheese, and veggies. Although, after tasting it, we think this sandwich might have been better without the hot dog. Everything paired perfectly and tasted fresh…except for the hot dog. It felt a bit out of place amongst all the other ingredients.

The lemon oil and pomegranate glaze added a wonderful refreshing flavor, and the mozzarella was creamy, soft, and cool. The tomato bruschetta added a fresh and vibrant flavor.

There is actually a hot dog there, although it might have been better if there wasn’t…

The roll was crispy and crunchy on the outside, while still being nice and fluffy on the inside. The biggest let-down was the hot dog. It didn’t match with the fresh and vibrant flavors from the rest of the meal.

A look inside

Overall, we loved all the toppings, but we don’t think it was a hit as a hot dog. We much preferred eating it without the hot dog. But if you are looking for a unique hot dog or a new take on the caprese sandwich, this could be a great option for you!
