Let me start by saying: this thing came out on a literal boat.
No exaggeration. We sat down for what we thought would be a casual sushi meal at Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion — and instead got hit with what can only be described as a full-blown sushi event. The $300 Fune (which, yes, means “boat”) was loaded, borderline ridiculous, and 100% one of the most over-the-top things we’ve eaten in EPCOT. Was it worth it? Absolutely — if you do it right.
The Boat (Yes, Really)
The Fune is a massive wooden sushi boat meant to serve 4–6 people. We were three people. We took one look at the thing and immediately started doing sushi math. You know, that quick internal calculation where you ask yourself how much raw fish you can reasonably consume before you either tap out or need a nap in the Japan Pavilion’s serene gardens.
The boat was beautiful. Like, stop-what-you’re-doing-and-stare beautiful. It was packed with sashimi, rolls, shrimp, roe, and garnishes arranged so precisely it felt wrong to dig in. But dig in we did. Some of the sashimi options were so fresh they practically melted as soon as they hit your tongue. The sushi rolls weren’t anything wildly inventive, but they were solid, tasty, and exactly what you want when you’re deep in Disney mode and looking for quality.
There was a roll packed with avocado that was creamy and balanced, and another one (tucked right at the bow of the boat) that surprised us with a little extra kick. You’ve also got shrimp, a healthy dose of tobiko (fish roe), and some extremely photogenic garnishes. Every piece was artfully arranged, and the whole spread screamed “special occasion.”
Was It the Best Sushi We’ve Ever Had?
Here’s where we’re gonna keep it real. If you’re comparing this to high-end omakase spots or EPCOT’s own Takumi-Tei, no—it doesn’t quite hit that level. The fish quality is good, but it’s not transcendent. But that’s not really what this is about.
You’re paying for a combo of quality, quantity, and spectacle. The boat itself becomes part of the experience—this isn’t a quiet little sushi night. This is a “look at that thing” moment. People stared when it came out. Our server looked like they were presenting a trophy. And we were more than happy to receive it.
It’s the kind of thing you do when you’re with a group, celebrating something, or just want to go big and have fun with your food.
But $300??
We get it. Three hundred dollars sounds wild, especially for sushi inside a theme park. But let’s put it into perspective.
This thing feeds 4–6 people comfortably. If you’re with a group of friends or family and splitting the cost, it becomes much more reasonable. You’re essentially paying around $50–$75 per person for a full meal of fresh sushi with a killer presentation—and in EPCOT, where a regular quick service meal can easily hit $25, that’s not as far-fetched as it sounds.
Would we do it again with just two people? Probably not, unless we were going for a “let’s go all out” kind of experience. But with a group? 100% yes. It’s fun, it’s filling, and honestly, it’s the kind of Disney dining memory that sticks with you long after the sashimi’s gone.
Pro Tips If You’re Thinking About It
- Go hungry. Like, really hungry. You want to be ready for this.
- Split it. The Fune is 100% a group experience. Get at least four people to help take it down.
- Don’t expect omakase-level sushi. This is EPCOT sushi, not Tokyo fine dining. But it’s still solid.
- Take your time. This isn’t a grab-and-go meal. Soak in the vibes, enjoy the view, and make it an experience.
So yeah, we spent $300 on sushi in the middle of a theme park. And we’re not sorry about it. The Fune at Shiki-Sai is a splurge, for sure — but it’s also something completely unique that you’re not going to find at many other theme park restaurants (or anywhere else, really). If you’re into sushi, love sharing food with a group, and want something fun and over-the-top on your next EPCOT visit? This boat’s waiting for you.

If a good fish vet can get it back swimming, I don’t eat it, much less pay $300 for it. But that’s just me. I have never been a fan of sushi. I respect other people who do like it, but $300? I’d have a hard time paying that much for a nice grilled steak.
No can do raw, would love a boat with fried rice , noodles, tempura veggies and shrimp, beef and chicken sticks.
My daughter and I did the entire boat- just the 2 of us!! Absolutely no more rides that day after that but it was soooo worth it!! Did it a 2nd time with a group of 4. Much more manageable!! And still worth it. So much fun and great food!!
