Magic Kingdom is going through some serious changes right now.
Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat have closed for good, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is undergoing a major refurbishment, and we’re getting a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern soon! Over in Fantasyland, a popular Disney ride has also just closed for refurbishment — here’s what you need to know.
Heads up if you’re heading to Disney World soon! Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid will be temporarily closed this week. Luckily, it’s a short closure — but it’s still one more ride at Magic Kingdom you won’t be able to experience, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid will be closed from July 21st through July 25th. You will be able to ride the attraction again on July 26th! Make sure you plan accordingly if you are in Disney World this week!
We stopped by to check out the changes at this ride, and it didn’t look like too much had changed from what we could see, other than the line being roped off. A nearby Cast Member either wasn’t sure about or wouldn’t share the details about the refurbishment. Since it’s only closed for a short time, we’re not expecting any major changes to this ride.
In addition to Under the Sea, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed — but for much, much longer. The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster!
We’ll be on the lookout for more ride closures and other updates you need to know about from Disney World. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more.
