There are tons of decisions to be made in Disney World at any given moment. What park do you want to go to? Do you want to park hop? What rides will you ride and where will you eat? The list goes on!
However, these are often questions we ask to ourselves, or maybe we’re asked them by the members in our party. We have to admit, though, that we were asked an unusual question at the Magic Kingdom Parking Lot today that we weren’t expecting.
Today, July 20th, Disney’s new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away officially debuts in Magic Kingdom! The parade has had surprise showings the past two evenings, and we’ve seen MASSIVE crowds for this new entertainment offering. Today appears to be no different.
Disney announced a few weeks ago that park pass reservations for Magic Kingdom would be required for all those without date-based tickets (for example, Annual Passholders), and that the normal “enter any park after 2 PM without a reservation” rule wouldn’t be applying to the park for the time being due to the expected crowds.
It turns out, even hours before the parade will be begin tonight, when we were parking, we were asked if we already had a park pass reservation for the park, which is a new one for us! This is likely so that fewer people without date based tickets and NO park pass reservations will be turned away at the gates, because park pass reservations are totally sold out for Magic Kingdom today.
The interest in the parade is apparently continuing into this week, but Magic Kingdom park passes are also sold out for Monday, July 21st, and Tuesday, July 22nd.
In addition to the crowds, if you’re in the parks today, or on other summer days coming up, we need you to take the heat into account. Today it’s 92 degrees Fahrenheit in the parks, but feels like 98 degrees with the heat index. This means that standing around and waiting for the parade in the best spot is going to be HARD. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself — invest in some fans or cooling towels to keep you cool, stay hydrated, and getting shade and/or AC when you need it, even if it means giving up your parade spot. You can’t enjoy the parade if you’re passed out and have to go to first aid!

I watched the parade on video. It’s nice…but I wouldn’t waste time waiting to see it. It’s only a few minutes long! If I was in the right place at the right time…sure it would be fun to see.
