If you’re visiting Disney World in the summer, you’re probably already aware that the weather can be a problem sometimes, and not just because it’s also hurricane season (although that can put a wrench in your travel plans).
Not only do you have to worry about those random summer thunderstorms that can seemingly pop up out of nowhere and drench you in the parks (and close rides), but you also have to worry about how those storms — and other weather — could affect your flight to and from Disney World. Well, today, that’s exactly what happened. According to WFTV, the Federal Aviation Administration called a ground stop at several Florida airports, including Orlando International Airport, due to severe thunderstorms. That means that a lot of flights to and from Orlando will probably experience delays today.
The ground stop was scheduled to end around 2:30 PM, but there are still a lot of flight delays at Orlando International Airport. FlightAware is currently showing that 253 flights are delayed, with four flights being outright canceled. Nearly every airline that flies into or out of Orlando is currently experiencing delays due to the earlier ground stop.
If you are flying into or out of Orlando International Airport today, you’ll want to make sure you have a way of receiving notifications from your airline. You’ll want to have the airline’s app on your mobile device, but it’s also always a good idea to sign up for text alerts, too, if that’s available.

You’ll also want to keep an eye on the departures screens at the airport to stay updated and listen for any announcements concerning the status of your flight. Things may change at any moment!
