Sure, Disney World has rides and entertainment, as well as a million things to do.
But Disney World also has ANIMALS, especially in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (although you can see some sea creatures in EPCOT, too). Well, if you’ve ever been on the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride, you may have learned a little something about flamingos…that they get their color from their diet and that a group are called a flamboyance. Well, let’s just say that Disney World’s flamboyance just got a little bigger because some new flamingos have been born. BABY BIRDS, y’all!
Some new chicks (aka baby flamingos) have been born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, adding to the flamboyance that’s already living there. In fact, you can even see them if you visit the hotel at Jambo House. They’re cute and tiny…but don’t expect them to be pink. Like we’ve learned from Kilimanjaro Safaris, they aren’t born pink…they turn pink as they get older due to their diet of algae and brine ship, which are rich in carotenoids, which gives certain foods a bright pink color.
Believe it or not, there are actually six species of flamingos. Those in Disney World are greater flamingos, which are the most widespread kind of flamingo. These flamingos are also the largest species of flamingo and can grow to about 43-59 inches tall.
If you love flamingos, be sure to stop by Jambo House to say hi to this little guy. While you’re there, be sure to check out all the other animals you can see on the savannah and be sure to grab some zebra domes before you leave. Even better? Snag a Boma or Sanaa reservation and have a nice meal, too.
