Visiting Disney World can feel like a dream come true.
But navigating the parks can sometimes lead to some cringe-worthy missteps. We’ve been there, done that, and have the slightly red faces to prove it. To save you from making the same blunders, we’re sharing three embarrassing mistakes we made so you don’t have to.
Big Thunder Mountain
Picture this: You’re braving Big Thunder Mountain during a light drizzle, only to realize that rain at 35 mph feels like you’re being pelted by tiny, wet slaps to the face. Lesson learned: Big Thunder + rain = instant regret.
Now that was a pretty embarrassing story, but here’s the kicker – riding Big Thunder Mountain in 2025 is even more embarrassing. Why? Because the ride closed on January 6th for a major refurbishment and isn’t reopening until sometime in 2026.
So, if you forget this, not only will you be disappointed, but you’ll also have to awkwardly explain to your group why you dragged them halfway across Frontierland for nothing. Make sure to save yourself the hassle and keep it right here so you stay up-to-date on ride closures.
Wearing the Wrong Outfit on Space Mountain
We love Space Mountain, but let’s talk about the unspoken truth: getting out of those ride vehicles is hard. If you’ve ever tried to exit this low-slung rocket in a skirt, you know exactly what we mean. Trying to gracefully maneuver your way out while keeping your outfit in place? Not happening.
So, unless you’ve got some trusty slip shorts or leggings underneath, this can quickly become a mortifying situation. Take it from us and plan your outfit accordingly. Skirts are cute, but not when they’re threatening to expose you to a bunch of strangers. You’ll want to opt for comfy and flexible attire that keeps you confident and stress-free.
Stuffing Yourself at Biergarten Before Racing to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Let’s set the scene: You’re enjoying a hearty, family-style meal at Biergarten in EPCOT, savoring pretzels, sausages, and all the German goodies.
You’re stuffed, happy, and ready to leisurely stroll around World Showcase. Then it hits you – your Guardians of the Galaxy ride time is now, and it’s on the other side of the park! Cue the frantic dash through EPCOT, clutching your stomach and praying you don’t lose your lunch before entering the queue. Spoiler alert: We barely made it and vowed never to cut it that close again.
The takeaway? Plan your meals and rides wisely. Avoid heavy meals right before thrill rides, especially when they’re across the park. Give yourself time to digest, relax, and enjoy the magic without the stress of a food-induced sprint.
It’s Okay to Laugh at Yourself
Disney World is full of surprises, and even with the best planning, things can go hilariously wrong. The key is to roll with it. Whether it’s realizing your ride is closed, fighting the rain on a roller coaster, or awkwardly exiting a rocket ship, these moments become part of your Disney story.
So, learn from our mistakes, avoid these pitfalls, and have the most magical (and embarrassment-free) Disney World trip ever.
