Dear EPCOT….
This ultra-specific job has been a dream of mine for YEARS now. But the only way to make it happen is if we WORK TOGETHER — you and me — theme park and… human. So I hope you take this informal audition of mine into consideration when you’re choosing your next lineup of…..
Festival of the Arts CHALK ARTISTS! That’s right. I LOVE chalk art. Always have, always will. It’s been a passion of mine since I was little and — because I took Peter Pan’s advice a little TOO much to heart — I never grew up and I never grew out of my love for creating temporary sidewalk art.
Here, I’ll show you a few of my personal favorites that I’ve made these past few years. (Gotta beef up that portfolio, after all.) If you can’t already tell, this is my favorite artistic medium. THAT’S why EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts is my all-time FAVORITE Disney World festival to attend. During this wintertime fest, I — once again — fall head over heels for the numerous art booths, food studios, live entertainment, aaaaand….
CHALK ART! Hmm… Looks like I’m not the ONLY person with a passion for sidewalk masterpieces.
Each year, chalk artists create a gallery of work along the bridge leading up to the World Showcase Plaza. And while many folks might breeze on past them, hurrying to get to The Mexico Pavilion to start their World Showcase adventures, I can’t help but stop and ogle for a while.
These chalk artists are EXTREMELY talented. So much so that it’s downright intimidating at times. But if you’re lucky enough to walk this path when one of the chalk artists is out and creating their pieces in real-time, you’ll learn the artists behind these drawings are NOT intimidating whatsoever; they’re just a REALLY nice group of folks who love chatting about their work. I think we’d all be good friends, tbh.
Another cool thing about this chalk art path? It’s always changing! (But that’s all thanks to the rain. One thing I’ve learned from being a chalk artist is that you can never get TOO attached to your work. Like, EVER.) So if someone plans on visiting this festival MULTIPLE times whenever it’s offered, they’re bound to see something completely new pop up along the sidewalks with each go-around!
SO EPCOT, just in review, I think you should accept my informal audition to become a FUTURE Festival of the Arts chalk artist for the following reasons:
- I think the other chalk artists and I would get along swimmingly.
- I’d be more than happy to make a new drawing every time Orlando’s afternoon showers washed one away. And…
- This Festival inspires me. And I’d love to spread the inspiration to other creatives out there who, just like me, never grew up.
Yours truly,
-DFB Breea
