Disney World isn’t the only theme park resort making some huge changes in 2025.
Universal Orlando has a pretty big year ahead of it, too, especially with the opening of Epic Universe in May. However, some other big changes seem to be coming to Univeral Orlando, too, and we recently uncovered a permit suggesting that a classic roller coaster would be getting demolished soon. Well, Universal Orlando has now confirmed that this ride will be closing next year.
On December 23rd, 2024, Universal submitted a permit with the South Florida Water Management for a project that includes the demolition of a classic Universal Studios roller coaster, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. The project mentioned it would “remove existing attraction and replace with proposed attraction.” So, basically, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is going away forever and will be replaced with something new. The plan even mentioned new backstage spots in the area, as well as some new buildings.
Universal recently took to social media to confirm the closure of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, announcing that it would be permanently closing in September 2025. That means you have about 7-8 months to grab one more ride on the roller coaster (we’ll pass, because we got stuck on it once for an hour, and we’re still traumatized).
Hello! Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will close in early September 2025 to make way for a new experience. More details will be available at a later date. #AskUniversal

The ride will be replaced with something new, but Universal Orlando hasn’t offered any details on what will be replacing it. However, we know a new Fast & Furious-themed coaster is under construction at Universal Studios Hollywood, so there’s a chance that the ride could make its way to the East Coast, too.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for more announcements regarding the new ride, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
