If you’re not paying attention to these pesky blackout periods, you could end up spending way more money than you expected or even missing out on those magical savings altogether. We’ve spotted a couple that are coming up, so let’s go over them, so you can steer clear of a booking disaster.

What Are Blockout Dates, Anyway?

Blockout dates are these specific periods when certain promotions or special offers don’t apply. Now, Disney doesn’t hide this info, but it’s not exactly front and center when you’re dreaming about that castle view at sunset. For example, you might find an amazing deal on theme park tickets or a hotel stay, only to realize later that your vacation dates fall smack in the middle of a blockout period.

And trust me on this, Disney blockout dates aren’t random. They usually line up with peak travel times like spring break, summer holidays, or Thanksgiving. That all means that those are the times when Disney is already expecting big crowds, so they’re not as likely to offer discounts or promotions.

Why Those Blockout Dates Matter

If you’re not careful, blockout dates can lead to two big problems:

• Take the Plunge with a Disney Water Park Seasonal Pass! Enjoy Visit After Visit Through May 23, 2025—Just $79 Per Pass, Plus Tax
  • This is a killer deal if you love spending time at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. It’s valid for multiple visits through May 23rd, 2025, but here’s the catch:
    • Blockout Dates: April 12th–April 20th, 2025.

If you’re planning a spring getaway, double-check those dates so you don’t buy a pass you can’t use during your trip.

• US Military Members: Enjoy Specially Priced Theme Park Tickets in 2025
  • This offer is a big perk for military families, with discounts on tickets for visits anytime from January 1st, 2025, to December 19th, 2025. But there are a few weeks you’ll need to avoid:
    • Blockout Dates:
      • April 13–April 26, 2025 (spring break season).
      • November 23–November 29, 2025 (Thanksgiving week).

If you were eyeing a spring or Thanksgiving trip, these dates won’t qualify for the deal.

• Read the Fine Print: When you’re looking at a special offer, don’t just get caught up in the headline. Scroll down and read all the terms and conditions, including those blockout dates.
• Plan Your Trip Around the Offers: If you’re trying to save money, it’s worth shifting your dates to fall outside of the blocked-out periods. A little flexibility can go a long way.
