The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season has wreaked havoc, with Florida and many other areas still picking up the pieces from Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene.
Disney World closed the theme parks, water parks, hotels, and more for the first time in years as Milton made its way over the Orlando area, but made it out with minimal damage. Now, another storm is barrelling through the Caribbean and we’re sharing the latest updates.

After making landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane in Cuba on the evening of October 20th, Oscar has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm. The storm is still forecast to produce significant rainfall and life-threatening flash flooding, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Oscar made landfall in Cuba just hours after making landfall in the Bahamas and currently has maximum sustained winds of around 45 miles per hour with stronger gusts.
The storm is expected to turn northwest and north later today, followed by faster northeastward movements on Tuesday and Wednesday. Oscar will likely continue moving across eastern Cuba through this afternoon.
“Some additional weakening is likely while Oscar moves across the mountainous terrain of eastern Cuba, but Oscar is forecast to be a tropical storm when it moves north of Cuba late today and then moves near the southeastern and central Bahamas on Tuesday,” the NHC said on Monday.
Rainfall amounts of 7 to 14 inches with some areas getting as much as 20 inches are expected across Cuba, with the potential for life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides. In the Bahamas, 3 to 5 inches of rain are expected with some isolated areas getting around 8 inches.

With Oscar heading northeast further into the Atlantic Ocean, the storm does not pose a threat to Florida or Disney World at this time. Still, the storm is a reminder that we’re not out of hurricane season just yet. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from the beginning of June through the end of November, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any potential storms that may pop up.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for additional updates in the tropics and the latest Disney news that might impact your trip. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss a thing!
