Big changes are coming to California Adventure.
There were many major announcements made at the 2024 D23 Ultimate Fan event regarding Disney’s theme parks, including the confirmation that the Avengers E-Ticket attraction is finally coming to California Adventure. The new ride, dubbed Avengers Infinity Defense, will anchor an expansion to Avengers Campus that will also feature the Stark Flight Lab attraction, which will feature Robert Downey Jr. returning as Iron Man. However, this new construction may lead to the end of an old favorite.
We can confirm that the construction of the Avengers attractions will lead to changes in several backstage areas of California Adventure, including the Red Car Trolley Barn, which is why the attraction will be discontinued at an as-yet-unannounced date in early 2025.
The Red Car Trolley, based on the real trolley system that formerly served Los Angeles before itself being controversially removed in the mid-20th century, was built at California Adventure as part of the massive refurbishment Disney built at the park in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
Opening in 2012, the ride became a favorite of California Adventure fans thanks to its unique theming a placemaking. The ride, which according to Disney offers a “charming vintage trolley for a scenic ride through Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land”, features stops at Buena Vista Street, Carthay Circle, Hollywood Boulevard, and Sunset Boulevard.
There is the possibility that the Red Car Trolley could return once the new attractions are ready with new backstage infrastructure, similar to the way the Walt Disney World Railroad had been closed during the construction of TRON Lightcycle/Run, though that possibility seems remote. We’ll have to wait and see, but more information is expected to be released this winter.
