Calling It Now: This NEW Grilled Cheese in Disney World Is Gonna Be DIVISIVE

Any time there’s new food in Disney World, you can bet we’ll be there to try it out!

We’ve recently had a limited-time POG-flavored treat that we LOVED, some incredible Tiana’s Bayou Adventure-themed food (including BEIGNETS!) at Magic Kingdom, and a couple of brand-new Starbucks drinks that we got from Main Street Bakery. On a recent visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (one of our favorite hotels on property), we found a new grilled cheese sandwich that’s hiding in an obscure location. We just have to warn you: this sandwich is going to be DIVISIVE.

At the Maji Pool Bar in Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Kidani Village, you can get drinks like cocktails, wine, and draft beer, and you can also check out this bar’s menu to grab a bite to eat!

We grabbed the new Gourmet Grilled Cheese, which has pear chutney, goat cheese, cheddar, smoked gouda, bresaola, and pickled onions on multigrain bread. It’s served with seasoned chips and costs $11.79.

Here’s why we think this sandwich will be divisive: Anyone (especially kids) who gets this sandwich thinking it will be a normal grilled cheese will probably hate it. Our reporter actually said that a little kid looking for a normal grilled cheese will “hate this with a burning passion that stems from deep inside them.” I can just imagine my 5-year-old nephew biting into the sandwich, getting a mouthful of pear chutney and pickled onions, and immediately bursting into tears.

However, if you’re looking for an elevated grilled cheese with more sophisticated flavors, we think you’ll LOVE it. It’s really not a grilled cheese at all; It’s more like a very cheesy sandwich with lots of delicious ingredients. The bread has seeds in it, which is a great textural element. Then you add the different textures of the pear chutney, the meat, and all that ooey gooey cheese and it mixes together very well.

The flavor of all the ingredients together was so delicious. It reminds us of a charcuterie board in sandwich form! The pear chutney and pickled onions are real stand-outs (the flavor was very prominent), so you’ll want to avoid the sandwich if you don’t like those flavors. However, if you like them, you’ll love this. They added a great acidic tang that helped to break up the rich cheese. It’s incredibly well-balanced.

Although the sandwich is all the way out at the Maji Pool Bar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, we think it’s worth going out of your way for. We’ll definitely be back to get another one soon!
