Are you planning to visit Disney World in April?
It’s a great time to visit Disney World, that’s for sure! You’re likely to get good weather that isn’t TOO hot just yet (although it might be rainy). Spring Break should be over, which means you won’t have serious crowds to contend with. The EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival will still be going on, so you can enjoy all the beautiful topiaries AND amazing food. But we want to warn you about some things if you’re visiting in April, too.
So here are the mistakes you should NOT make if you’re visiting Disney World in April.
Underestimating April Showers
April showers may bring flowers, but they can also bring a lot of rain to Disney World. Now, we are always warning you about random Florida storms that pop up from time to time, but we see them more once spring really kicks in. That means you’ll need to make sure you keep a poncho or raincoat in your day bag.
The last thing you want is to get soaked during a random storm and then have to walk around in wet clothes the rest of the day. Also, pro tip: bring an extra pair of socks in case yours get wet.

Not bringing warm weather gear
Although the weather isn’t necessarily TOO hot in April (it’s not quite summer yet), it can still get a bit hot and humid in Florida during the month, especially if you’re not used to it. You’ll want to be sure to check the weather forecast before your trip and pack accordingly, aka bring your summer clothes if it’s going to be warm.
You will also want to make sure you have warm weather gear like cooling towels, misting fans, water bottles, etc., so you’re well-prepared for those days when it might actually qualify as hot.
5 Things You Will Only Know About Someone If You Take Them to Disney World
Not checking the refurbishment and closure schedule
You’ll want to make sure you’re aware of any refurbishments and closures that are happening in April. For example, Country Bear Jamboree and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster are both closed in Disney World right now. Several hotel pools are also closed during this time (spring is when we see a lot of pools close for maintenance).
We’ll do our best to keep you updated on those closures and refurbishments, but you can also keep an eye on the calendars on the Disney World website.

Not preparing for the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend
If you’re visiting Disney World during the weekend of April 18th through 21st, you’re going to see a lot of extra crowds in the parks and around the resort. That’s because the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend event will be happening that weekend and runners from ALL over attend these events. So you’ll want to prepare for crowds.
If you’re driving to Disney World, also keep in mind that there will be some road closures at times to make way for the runners and each running event. This will affect traffic around Disney World, too.

Expecting Genie+ to cost less
So, here’s the thing, although Spring Break crowds might be gone from Disney World in April, we never REALLY know how the Genie+ surge pricing is going to work. You might budget for the starting price of $15 per ticket, but if Disney is anticipating crowds (like during that runDisney event weekend), expect to pay more for Genie+.
You may choose not to buy Genie+, but if you want to use the Individual Lightning Lane for some of Disney World’s newest and most popular rides, you might find those prices higher than expected, too. So budget accordingly.
