American Airlines Announces BIG CHANGES to Rewards Program

So many of us do because it’s so convenient to fly into Orlando International Airport and then head to Disney World, right? So, do you have a preferred airline? We know that a LOT of our readers enjoy Southwest Airlines (free bags!). But what about American Airlines? Well, if you’re a member of the American Airlines loyalty program (or are considering it), you’re getting some NEW perks.

American Airlines is updating its frequent flyer program, AAdvantage. The new changes will give extra perks to members without changing status and reward levels. There will also be some new perks (once exclusive to AAdvantage members) for ALL customers.

When the new earnings year begins on March 1st, the lowest AAdvantage level of gold will still require 40,000 loyalty points. American Airlines is also adding a new Loyalty Point Reward choice, where members can get additional Loyalty Points, starting at the 15,000 Loyalty Point Reward level. AAdvantage members will also be able to earn more miles when paying for a seat upgrade with cash.

New perks include Flagship Dining passes for members who reach AAdvantage Platinum Pro, so they can “dine in luxury at the airport.” Members will also be able to redeem miles for upgrades on select American Airlines partners.

Members also get same-day standby, extended trip credit, one-day passes to Admirals Club lounges, the opportunity to purchase Flagship Lounge single visit passes, and 24-hour trip hold. Later in January 2024, AAdvantage Members will also be able to cancel non-refundable Basic Economy tickets and receive a partial trip credit for a fee.

So, if you fly American Airlines often, now might be a good time to sign up for AAdvantage — membership is free!
