Know how we warn you about transportation delays and unexpected closures? Well, every once in a while, Disney World transportation breaks down in the middle of operation.
The Monorail
Sometimes, we see things like the Skyliner or the Friendship Boats close due to weather. Other times, in extreme cases, Disney transportation closes due to technical or mechanical difficulties. On September 29th, we noticed a serious delay happening over in EPCOT. Let’s take a look.
Around 5:45PM, we noticed that the EPCOT monorail had not moved from its spot for about 30 minutes. At the time of publishing, the monorail was still in the same place on the track.

There are no guests on the Monorail other than the driver. A Cast Member informed us that there is an issue with the switch beam, which is run by a currently malfunctioning computer. While this Monorail is stuck on one beam, they are running another Monorail on the other beam every 15-18 minutes.
The monorail has not moved.
According to those in the area, Disney is currently using buses as a temporary replacement for the EPCOT monorail. When the Skyliner closes due to impending weather, Disney typically sends a dedicated bus for guests who were hoping to use the Skyliner, so it’s likely Cast Members are following a similar protocol in this case. Disney has not made an official statement on the situation at this time.
