There are lots of not-so-great purchases that you might make in Disney World. Maybe you’ll forget your rain poncho at home and have to buy one of the overpriced ones in the gift shops when it starts pouring in the middle of the day. You might pay for Genie+ on a day or in a park that ends up not being busy at all, when the standby wait times are basically the same as the Lightning Lane wait times.

Cinderella Castle
We’ve all made mistakes when it comes to spending money in Disney World, but there’s one very painful mistake that we’re begging you to avoid.
Today, we were browsing the merchandise in the Emporium (Magic Kingdom‘s huge gift shop on Main Street, U.S.A.) when we came across these beauties. This is the Disney100 Platinum Mickey and Minnie Ear Headband.

Disney100 Ear Headband
The headband is silver (or “platinum,” apparently) with an Art Deco-inspired style. One ear features Minnie Mouse…

Minnie
…and the other has Mickey.

There’s a “Disney100” logo in the middle.

You might be wondering, “Why is this the worst thing I’ll buy in Disney World?” The headband is actually pretty cute, and we like the unique look. And 100th anniversary souvenirs are fun since they celebrate a major Disney milestone! But the problem with these particular ears is that they HURT. This purchase is literally PAINFUL.

It HURTS
The plastic that they’re made of is very heavy, and those little teeth on the top of the headband can dig into your head. We would NOT recommend trying to wear these all day in the parks — you’ll probably end up with a bad headache and serious regret, and we don’t want that to ruin your Disney day.

Hard plastic
However, if you just like the look of the ears and want to display them in your home or maybe just wear them for a little while, they might be perfect. Just don’t count on them being a comfortable, easy-to-wear accessory.
You can get these for $23.47 at the Emporium, and we also spotted them at Creations Shop in EPCOT.

However, if you’re looking for a more comfortable pair of ears to wear around the parks, we found these Mickey and Friends Disney100 Loungefly ears online at shopDisney that are made with simulated leather and have a velour lining inside the headband.
They’re more expensive than the ones we found in Disney World today, but we’re willing to bet the comfort is worth the extra cost.
