If you travel (and if you travel to Disney World), you probably fly to get to where you’re going.
Of course, flying brings with it some challenges, particularly the chance of a flight getting delayed or canceled. The biggest challenge, though, is paying for that airfare. Although you can occasionally score some good deals and discounts, there are still two times in 2023 when it’s probably going to be MORE expensive to fly.
According to air travel agency Hopper, domestic airfare for spring and summer travel this year is going to go up from what passengers are generally paying now for flights. Hopper expects prices to rise more than 5 percent from February and then go even higher for the spring and summer booking months.
Hopper estimates that airfare will peak in the summer at an average of $350 per ticket, which is still cheaper than the same time last year, which was an average of $400. But airfare is still expected to be higher than before the pandemic, thanks to higher fuel costs, higher demand, and “constrained supply.”
Hopper laid out how much it expects airfare to cost throughout the summer. Here’s the chart with the agency’s forecast. May is expected to be the most expensive time of year to book air travel — then prices go down a little after that, but remain high.
Hopper also provided a forecast on when fares will go back down — fall and winter (disregarding the holidays) travel might be your best bet if you want to save some $$$ on that flight.
So what does this mean for you? Well, it means if you’re planning on traveling to Disney World in the spring and summer, booking that flight will cost more than it would if you waited until later in the year. So if you’re flexible with your travel plans, you might want to put off travel until later.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on the air travel situation to help you plan your next Disney World trip so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more.
