Do you remember the first Disney movie you ever watched?
Disney is being honored again!
Whether it was an oldie or a newer film, chances are it probably made an impact on you. The American Film Registry is kept by the Library of Congress, and every year 25 films that are considered “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant are added to the list. This year, 2 Disney films made the cut!
Some Disney movies will go down in the history books — literally! According to Variety, both Iron Man and The Little Mermaid have been added to the American Film Registry. The films were honored this year alongside other classics like Hairspray and When Harry Met Sally.
She’s now officially part of our world!
Iron Man is the film that catapulted the massive Marvel franchise we all know and love, while The Little Mermaid marked the beginning of an era that came to be known as The Disney Renaissance. It’s kind of fitting they were both added this year!
A big congrats to Marvel!
In the past, other Disney films that have been included on the American Film Registry include Dumbo, Mary Poppins, and Toy Story. After these new additions, the number of films in the registry now totals a whopping 850! Movie marathon anyone?
