Opening DATE Announced for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway in Disneyland

There’s a very big part of Disneyland Resort that’s getting a makeover right now, and some big changes are coming!

It’s getting a makeover!

Mickey’s Toontown is getting a bunch of upgrades, from water features to a new park. But, one of the most exciting things coming to the land is a NEW ride — Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. And now, we FINALLY have an opening date for the new attraction!

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open on January 27th, 2023, in Disneyland Park! We already knew that it would be opening sometime in 2023, but we didn’t know the exact date. Disney has said that it will reopen as part of the Disney100 anniversary celebration kickoff. The rest of Mickey’s Toontown is slated to reopen in the spring of 2023.

This ride (which is already open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Disney World) is the first ride-through attraction that actually stars Mickey Mouse and it has an original storyline and song. It uses what Disney calls 2½D (as opposed to 2D or 3D) technology. This brings the ride’s two-dimensional cartoons to life in a brand new way in a trackless dark ride.

Runaway Railway!

This ride is a part of Toontown’s “ambitious reimagining” which will have new, interactive experiences so that “families and young children can have more opportunities to play together inside Disneyland park.”

“Coming Toon!”

The area should become a “vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and sensations” and will have new play experiences, as well as open, grassy areas where people can play and relax.

The ride at Disneyland will actually have a few unique things as the Imagineers have made some adjustments so it fits in the story of Mickey’s Toontown. According to Walt Disney Imagineering via Instagram, at Disneyland, there will be a “special exhibit” in the queue of the ride that’ll feature props and costumes from the toon world!
