No matter how much time and effort you might put into planning your Disney World vacation, sometimes the unexpected can still happen.
Rides can malfunction and shut down with no warning, and sometimes technical difficulties can cause a show to end abruptly. We do our best to help you plan as much as possible, but with so much changing it can be hard to keep up with it all. So, let’s take a look at the biggest construction updates from Disney World this week so you’re prepared for your next trip!
Magic Kingdom
Liberty Square Riverboat
The relaxing and often-underrated Liberty Belle — the Liberty Square Riverboat — closed for refurbishment on August 23rd, 2022. We typically see this happen around the same time each year as the boat goes through routine maintenance.
Luckily, she won’t be down for long, as the Riverboat is expected to open back up on September 1st, 2022.

TRON: Lightcycle Run
If it feels like we’ve been talking about TRON: Lightcycle Run for years, it’s because we have. Recently, we’ve been watching crews hard at work pouring more concrete walls that are going up around the base of the coaster.
We’re not totally sure what the plan is for these geometric structures, but we spotted workers filling them with sand while we passed by on the PeopleMover recently.
While we still don’t have an official opening timeline for this attraction yet, the pace seems to have picked up recently when it comes to construction progress — so stay tuned for more updates!

EPCOT
CommuniCore Hall & CommuniCore Plaza
Additional walls have gone up in the center of EPCOT as Disney works on building what will eventually become the new CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza areas.
We’ll get to experience a NEW Festival Center and more, though construction seems to be moving pretty slowly for now.

Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana
If you look out the window on your next EPCOT monorail ride, you might be shocked to see a whoooooole lot of scaffolding over at Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana. It looks like crews are starting to build the rock formations up even higher and add more details.
Disney shared a closer look at what’s actually going on down there, including a peek at some of the intricate concrete work being done.
Journey of Water still doesn’t have an official opening date, so stay tuned for updates. By the looks of it, though, we’re getting closer every day!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Dinosaur
The famous Disney construction bushes have popped up over in front of Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom. We’re not quite sure what’s up with our boy Aladar, but we’ll keep an eye out for changes or any more news about this project.
Aladar was recently repainted and the fountain was refurbished, so who knows? You can still ride Dinosaur, though (if you DARE!).
Disney Springs
Bathrooms Near Amorette’s
Disney Springs is one of our favorite spots to shop and grab a bite to eat on property, and on a recent trip, we noticed that there was one less available bathroom! Over near Amorette’s, you’ll find the restrooms currently closed.
This may just be a temporary closure, but we’ll let you know if anything changes.
Disney Resorts
Polynesian Village Resort
Over at the Polynesian, there’s one less spot to grab some delicious food. Kona Café is closed for refurbishment. We’re keeping an eye out for updates on an opening date, so stay tuned.
We’ve got a pile of diiiiirt, we’ve got a pile of diiiiirt! Well, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort does anyway. Work has begun on the new building that will be home to hotel rooms, new dining options, and even more merch locations. Construction is set to be completed in late 2024 and we can’t wait!
And, there you have it! The biggest construction updates you missed in Disney World this week. Things are almost always changing around the parks, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates and news.
Thinking about planning a trip to the parks? Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is in full swing, and you can still eat and drink around the world at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival, too! Later this year we’re expecting all sorts of holiday cheer at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays — you can read more here.
