We have been awaiting the arrival of Disney Cruise Line‘s newest cruise ship for what feels like forever!
The Disney Wish arrived in Port Canaveral in June and will sail on its maiden voyage next month. Now we’ve got a big update on the cruise, and it looks like things quite aren’t going as planned… .
Before the ship’s official maiden voyage on July 14th, two test cruises and a media event have been planned for the ship. However, according to the Orlando Sentinel, two test cruises that were for Cast Members and their families on June 21st and June 24th have been canceled.
According to Disney Cruise Line, the test cruises have been pulled to allow Disney to focus on preparations for next week’s christening event on June 29th, which will be followed by a 3-day news media preview sailing.
In a statement to the Orlando Sentinel, Disney Cruise Line said they want to put on the finishing touches and “test and adjust various components of the ship in advance of [its] maiden voyage on July 14.” Once the media cruise returns, the ship will have nearly two weeks to prepare for the first load of paying customers.
Although the test sailing was canceled, the ship did still depart Port Canaveral on Tuesday and sailed to Castaway Cay according to a ship tracking website. Additionally, the U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed they are still completing the required inspections for when a ship first comes to the United States. Reportedly that examination process is still ongoing.
We’ll continue to look for more updates on this situation and let you know if any further changes occur.
