Disney World is constantly celebrating things (and often it celebrates many things all at the same time!). This month is Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, which has brought its own set of celebrations to Disney.
As part of this celebration, the talented folks at Disney have whipped up a whole smorgasbord of eats and drinks that showcase AANHPI flavors and culture — and we’re reviewing one of those treats for you today!
Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs is a bakery that specializes in all kinds of delicious treats, and we recently stopped by to try their limited-time offering for Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month — the Ube Banana Mousse!
This Filipino-inspired dessert is an ube chiffon cake layered with banana-caramel mousse and banana liquor glaçage. Ube is a purple yam and is a popular ingredient in the Philippines, often used in desserts after being boiled and mashed.
First things first, this thing is beautiful — we love the bright colors! It was almost too pretty to eat…almost.
We thought this cake was remarkable! It’s not too sweet and definitely a different take on a dessert made with ube — which was the main flavor here. The cake was moist and reminded us of an opera cake. The banana was subtle but absolutely present. The mix of the flavors created a great balance.
There was a bitter aftertaste most likely due to the banana liquor, but we didn’t really mind that. The ube flavor might be a little more on the unique side for some, but, again, it’s something we enjoyed. If you’re looking to try something new, this is something worth trying — but picky eaters might want to act with caution.
This treat is available right now for a limited time at Amorette’s Patisserie, and you can get it for $8! Be sure to head on over if this sounds like a sweet treat you need to eat, and don’t forget to stay tuned to DFB!
