Disney movies have had an interesting relationship with streaming over the past couple years.

With the global pandemic shutting down theaters for a while, many movies that would’ve had big theatrical releases went straight to Disney+. Then, as things started opening up more, there were some films, like Black Widow, that premiered in both theaters and on Disney+, but for a premium price on the streaming service. Recently, we’ve seen more exclusive theatrical releases, like Spider-Man: No Way Home and West Side Story. But, we know you’re probably wondering when these films will be available on Disney+, and we have news about one popular movie!

West Side Story will be coming to Disney+ on March 2nd! Steven Spielberg’s reimagining of the story first debuted in theaters in the United States on December 10th of last year, and after a significant theatrical run, will soon be available to Disney+ subscribers.

The film will be available on March 2nd in the United States and in most international countries, then in Taiwan on March 9th and Japan on March 30th. And, the ABC one-hour special Something’s Coming: West Side Story — A Special Edition of 20/20 is available to stream on Disney+ now.

West Side Story has been nominated for 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, 11 Critics’ Choice Awards, and has won 3 Golden Globe awards, including Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. The Academy Awards are being held on March 27th this year, which means you can watch the movie on Disney+ well before the ceremony!

West Side Story is a remake of the classic film of the same name from 1961, which was based off of West Side Story the Broadway musical.

Disney has not mentioned anything about West Side Story requiring premium access on Disney+, like other films have, so it looks like the film will be included for Disney+ subscribers! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney entertainment news and updates.
