This year, we’re celebrating Disney World’s 50th anniversary!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

And there has been a LOT of celebrating, including special food, merchandise, new entertainment, and more! And there’s a lot more happening around the resort, including one very cool event that has given us a peek into Disney’s past!

It’s been 25 years since Cast Members at Disney’s Contemporary Resort carefully chose items to pack into a time capsule!

They placed various items inside including documents…

…nametags…

…and other memorabilia.

The time capsule was sealed, buried in front of the resort’s flag poles, and marked with a plaque that it would be opened on Disney World’s 50th anniversary.

And that anniversary is here! So on October 25th, a group of special Cast Members were invited to help Disney World dig up the time capsule and see what was inside.

And some of these Cast Members have been with Disney World for the full 50 years — so they got to relive some Disney history! Here’s a video of the big unveiling!

So what was inside the time capsule? There was a limited edition Contemporary Resort 25th anniversary coin…

…a 1996 edition of an employee newspaper, an anniversary poster of the birthday cake Cinderella Castle, a bowtie worn by the Contemporary’s general manager at the time, and more.

Everything in the capsule has been archived for historical purposes so that Disney can continue to look back on its history for many years to come.
