Today is the day, folks! It’s Disney World’s 50th anniversary!!
The celebrations have officially begun! The anticipation has been building ever since we heard the announcements for festivities like new fireworks, merchandise, and food. And now, we finally get to take part in all of the fun, including trying allll the new food items for the anniversary. And, with the large amount of sweet treats that have been added, we’re ready for something savory — come along with us to try out a new sandwich in Magic Kingdom!
This is the Pecos Bill Widow Maker Sandwich!
Widowmaker is the name of Pecos Bill’s horse from Disney’s 1948 feature film Melody Time.
The sandwich is found — confusingly enough — at Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland, not Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe (Why Disney? Why do you make things so complicated?!). It’s a spicy fried chicken sandwich with maple mustard slaw, topped with a whole bacon skewer.
Yep, you read that right, there’s a skewer of bacon on TOP of this sandwich. And it’s being held there by this cute little horseshoe toothpick!
This sandwich has a decent kick to it! It brought us the much needed savory flavors we wanted after eating so many sugar-filled treats today.
Unfortunately, we didn’t taste any maple flavor in the slaw, but we were fine with that — because, again, we’ve had too much sugar today!! We only tasted the mustard flavor in the slaw, which we really enjoyed, as it’s similar to a Dijon mustard.
If you’re not a fan of mustard, the Widow Maker is probably not for you, because it’s a strong flavor! And, if you can’t handle any spicy foods, go for something milder than this sandwich. But, if you love those flavors like we do, you should enjoy this new item, so go give it a try!
You can get the Widow Maker for $12.99 over at Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland (remember, NOT Pecos Bill🙄). Stay tuned to DFB as we try more of the special food items in Disney World for the 50th!
