International travel to Orlando has been lower than in previous years due to the global pandemic.
Foreign flights made up 13% of all flights to Orlando International Airport before the pandemic, now they only make up 6%, according to Orlando Business Journal. However, more international travel is now resuming and one of Orlando’s busiest airlines is planning on trying to boost that number.
Spirit Airlines will resume foreign flights to Orlando International Airport immediately.
The airline says their new schedule is the largest ever operated from Orlando and it includes 80 daily departures. There will be 8 new destinations and 6 existing destinations will resume service or get additional flights.
Thanks to Orlando Business Journal, here’s a look at Spirit’s updated flight schedule:
New flights
- Cancun, Mexico: Daily flights start immediately
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: Flights 3 times per week start immediately
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic: Flights 4 times per week start immediately
Resuming or expanding flights
- Guatemala City, Guatemala: Flights 4 times a week starting Sept. 9th
- Montego Bay, Jamaica: Flights 3 times per week starting Sept. 9th
- Cartagena, Colombia: Flights 2 to 3 times per week starting Sept. 10th
- Port-au-Prince, Haiti: Flights 3 times per week starting Nov. 18th
- San Salvador, El Salvador: Flights 3 times per week starting Nov. 19th
- San Jose, Costa Rica: Unspecified number of additional flights starting Nov. 17th
