VIDEO: See the Shanghai Disney Surprise That Took 20 Months to Make

As the Shanghai Disney Resort celebrates its 5th anniversary with the Year of Magical Surprises, the park has unveiled numerous new offerings like the ILLUMINATE! nighttime show as well as parades and delicious anniversary treats!

Recently, Shanghai made another big anniversary announcement: after 20 months of hard work, the Shanghai Disney team has unveiled new costumes for many of the park’s beloved characters and Cast Members!

In a recent video on the Shanghai Disney YouTube channel, they gave everyone a sneak peek of the new (and very festive) costumes. The Cast Members and characters walked down a fashion runway, showing off shining golden outfits that featured a small rainbow as well as blue and purple formal wear.

Not only did Mickey, Minnie, and the Cast Members get new outfits, so did many of the other characters at Shanghai Disney! Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Daisy, and Chip and Dale are getting new outfits too! According to Disney, the new outfits are inspired by the traditional five elements, the colors of the “Big Five” Mickey Mouse and Friends characters, and the Art Deco style.

The beloved stuffed animal characters Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni, StellaLou, CookieAnn, and ‘Olu Mel got new anniversary outfits too!

The ivory color scheme of the new costumes is inspired by the colors of Shanghai Disney’s Enchanted Storybook Castle. Each costume features some sort of “Magical Surprise,” fitting with the anniversary celebration’s theme!

Some of the “Magical Surprises” found in each costume are hidden number fives written on the costumes’ buttons as well as all sorts of fun ribbon details that make each character look like a birthday present! You can watch the full video below.
