It’s pretty amazing how quickly EPCOT turns over from one festival to the next.
Just over a week ago, they were still decking the halls for the International Festival of the Holidays, and just yesterday, it’s an explosion of color for the International Festival of the Arts! But in the hustle and bustle of trying to switch things over, it’s not TOO surprising that a couple of goofs were made.
We were live from the opening day of this year’s Festival of the Arts and we spotted a couple things making us wonder “EPCOT, you doin’ OK?”. Let’s check em out!
Festival of the…Food and Wine?!
First up, as we were entering World Showcase from the International Gateway, we noticed an…interesting flag. The lampposts around World Showcase are typically decorated with flags for each festival. The Festival of the Arts ones are particularly colorful like the one below.
But this one? Yea…it’s a couple festivals too old:
If you’re keeping track at home, EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival wrapped November 22nd of last year. Festival of the Holidays happened and no one noticed this poor guy and now we’re in another festival and he’s still chillin’ on his little lamppost. Technically if they leave him up long enough, they can just X out the “2020” and write in “2021” and leave it up, right? 😂

Utensil Holders Having an Identity Crisis
If you’re worried Festival of the Holidays wasn’t repped at this fest, rest easy. Over at the Japan Pavilion’s Goshiki Food Studio, it was (still) beginning to look a lot like Christmas:
Your forks and knives are saying “FA-LA-LA!” but your napkins are saying “MAKE ALL THE ART!”. Some people leave their Christmas tree up WAY past the holidays so maybe this is a quiet nod to those people? 😂

This Isn’t Quite How Figment Wanted to Change Your Perspective
Oh, Figment. This colorful, creative festival has basically become his playground. So much so, that he is all over the merchandise AND has his own scavenger hunt!
To purchase the maps for Figment’s scavenger hunt, you’d look for a sign like this outside of a number of gift shops:
But in our walking around World Showcase, we spotted a sign that needed…a little help!
You OK, sign?? Figment is known to try and encourage guests to change their perspective on things, but preeeeetty sure this isn’t what he had in mind!

Everything Old is New Again!
Finally, while we were checking out the merchandise for Festival of the Arts, we did a little double-take checking out this year’s pins. Sure, we’re just over a week into the new year but pretty sure something is wrong here. See if you can spot it!
If you thought “it’s 2021 this year, NOT 2020,” you would be correct! It’s a little hard to see in that photo above so here’s a better look:
The pins all have the correct info (this is the 5th anniversary of the fest!) but the cardboard backings all say 2020. Whoops! Maybe someone ordering the pins LAST year mistakenly thought that was the 5th anniversary or, in a very 2020 move, the backings had the wrong year printed on them this year. Either way, don’t worry that you fell into a Disney World gift shop time vortex. It’s still 2021. Wouldn’t be the first time recently we’ve seen a typo situation in Disney World!

All in all, the Festival kicked off smoothly and is shaping up to be a successful fest. We tried SO MANY foods and enjoyed taking in all the wonderful art the festival offers. This is such a beautiful festival and we know that Cast Members work tirelessly to help put on these events in the blink of an eye, so a couple small goofs slipping through the cracks can certainly happen. These are all small things we noticed but they still gave us a good laugh to see them around the park. We hope they gave you a smile too!
