From installing health and safety signs to entering into “return to work” agreements with various unions, Disneyland Resort appears to be actively preparing for when it can reopen.
But, official theme park reopening guidelines have not been issued by California officials yet.
Recently, California’s Governor Newsom sent a team to visit Disney World and other theme parks in Florida to review their reopening procedures. We also shared that a team would be visiting “larger theme parks” this week. Now, we know which ones in California the team will be touring. According to The Orange County Register, state officials will be touring Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier this week to review their reopening plans.
The delegation that will be visiting will include representatives from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, and the California Department of Health.
Mark Ghaly, the California Health and Human Services secretary, noted that the information the team obtains from the California theme park visits, together with their dialogue with theme park operators across the state will help them “land in a place that…we can all feel confident is based on the best and most up-to-date information.”
California theme parks have asked state officials to visit them and review their COVID-19 protocols for months. Erin Guerrero, the executive director of the California Attractions and Parks Association said they “applaud the governor for accepting [their] invitation to visit California’s iconic theme parks.” He noted that they are “eager to work together so theme parks can reopen responsibly and soon. Doing so will allow tens of thousands of people to get back to work and provide a much-needed jump start for local and state economies that have been decimated by the shutdown.”
Currently, Disneyland still does not have an official reopening date set, and hotel reservations are being canceled through October 24th. We’ll be on the lookout for more updates regarding this situation and let you know what we hear.
