With no one visiting the parks, Disney World has been donating its excess food to help the local community.
And, although we can’t visit our favorite restaurants in the parks right now, your local Florida grocery store is also finding ways to help those who need it right now.
Florida-based grocery chain, Publix, will be buying excess food from farmers to donate to food banks!
This comes after the news that local Florida growers and farmers are dealing with an overabundance of products and were having trouble transporting excess goods to those in need. While some Florida farms do supply grocery store chains, a decent amount of their goods go to theme parks and restaurants. Now that Disney World has closed indefinitely and restaurants are shut down (except for pick-up and delivery), their main source of income diminished.
Publix will help by not only providing funds for the farmers to continue growing and harvesting, but their purchases will help distribute the produce to the areas in need. If you’re looking for ways you can help, you can donate to Feeding America directly, buy a Sprinkles cupcake to provide money for donations, and so much more.
